Tezos Foundation Reports

Our reports provide insights and an overview of the Foundation’s activities. Twice a year, we issue a Biannual Update that covers our activities during the last few months.

Biannual Update

September 2023

The Tezos ecosystem experienced consistent growth in daily active wallets with the total number of wallets surpassing 4.5 million. The ecosystem also witnessed a notable increase in Total Value Locked (TVL) both in XTZ and USD.

The Tezos blockchain made significant progress in protocol upgrades during the first half of the year with the network successfully completing two forkless upgrades with Mumbai in March and Nairobi in June. Both upgrades introduced significant scaling possibilities.

This biannual report focuses on Tezos adoption and we have therefore added a short update by the Art, Gaming, DeFi and Core verticals, as well as small adoption teasers to help you with your first steps on Tezos.

Biannual Update

March 2022

Since the last Biannual Update in September 2021, Tezos has witnessed an increase in adoption driven by the collective efforts of builders around the world creating new and engaging applications and tools, as well as adoption from high-profile brands. Furthermore, empowered by a grass-roots community-driven movement, Tezos has been propelled forward as the de facto art-driven NFT blockchain. This momentum in the arts and culture category is expected to continue growing with enhanced presence at global events, which will allow the art world to embrace Tezos even more. In parallel, keystone Tezos NFT marketplaces continue to onboard talented artists and passionate collectors through their user-centric experiences and functionality.

Biannual Update

September 2021

Tezos continues to be at the forefront of adaptability and innovation, and we take great pride in setting the standard of sustainability and security. As a liquid proof-of-stake blockchain, the low carbon footprint of Tezos means developers and users can prioritize innovation without compromising sustainability. Its low energy consumption and low gas fees are one of the many reasons why Tezos is quickly becoming recognized as the most responsible place to mint, host, and trade clean NFTs.

Biannual Update

March 2021

During the period that this report covers, the Tezos blockchain was successfully upgraded twice. Delphi, the first upgrade, significantly improved the performance of the Michelson interpreter and lowered gas fees significantly while Edo was adopted only a few months later and added continuous performance improvements and, with Sapling, a powerful tool that enables new types of applications, such as voting and asset transactions with selective disclosures. With Florence approaching on the horizon, it is clear that the Tezos upgrade process has reached a seamless regular cadence and so we say with a smile that for Tezos, other blockchains have become a testnet.

Biannual Update

March 2020

It has been a momentous six months since our first Biannual Update. The Tezos ecosystem and community continue to grow and gain momentum.

The Tezos governance process continued to prove itself with the Babylon and Carthage upgrades. In addition to becoming the first public blockchain to upgrade itself automatically without requiring a hard fork, Tezos has shown that it is possible to establish a regular cadence of improvement that is not seen in other blockchain ecosystems.
